Jackson reminded me today of something that happened a couple of years ago that was really cute and sad. On the way to or from school one day we saw a dead squirrel. I can't remember if we saw him meet his demise or not. However it happened, it had an interesting impact on Jackson. Jackson has always been a tenderhearted soul and a lover of animals, so it wasn't unusual that he was concerned for the squirrel. He asked if it would go to heaven and wonder about his family. Once again my memory is fuzzy as to how it came about, but Jackson ended up writing a note/prayer for the squirrel and his family and asked if we could put it near the deceased varmint. We went back the next day and tacked the note to the closest telephone pole and said a little prayer for his family. It is stories like these that make the fabric of your family folklore for future generations. I'm glad Jackson reminded me of this story so I could write it down.
As in too much to do in one day. Up early to walk the dog. Off to school. Work a while. Off to Derm appointment. Rush home to let dog out. Rush to Middle School for tech. Back to main campus. Work until staff meeting, which runs until 4:45. Rush home to pick up Billy and head to piano. Walk Billy while JW is in lesson. Stop by Subway on the ride home to get some dinner. Take Billy to play with Bonnie at church field. Back home for JW's bath. Then off to bed. Whew!
JW stay home with Dana while I went to work this morning. We had our first admin meeting of the year and it lasted 3 hours. Lots to do! Went home for lunch and to walk Billy. Then back to work. I was able to get several things done before it was time to go home. Back home we took Billy over to visit his girlfriend Cary. JW swam in Linda's pool. Dana came home and took JW to see a movie for getting his book read.
I was finally able to get some work done on the website today. JW and I went to lunch with the boys to say goodbye -- tomorrow is their last day. The boys: Nick, Thomas and Jake. JW and I swung by the house to let Billy out and then back to school. At home, we ordered pizza, but I didn't eat any. I washed dishes and did a little work. Jackson and I played. I played with Billy. Dana came home and walked Bill. Trying to go to bed early.
Got up early to take Billy to Puppy Agility class. He did real good despite not getting any at home practice. Came home, got a snack and took Billy to school with me -- I did some website work as well as a little SummerScape stuff. Dana and Jackson had gone downtown to a Lego event. They went on to a movie after that. I brought Billy home and had a small lunch and went back to school. Dana and JW went to visit Misty. I went to Home Depot to buy a new potty and then to Winston's to pick up dinner. JW got invite to spend the night at Meemaw's with Isaac. Dana and I walked Billy and then did some work.
Every Wednesday for the past year or so, Jackson and I surf to MSNBC.com to look at Animal Tracks -- a photo blog all about animals. It is one of our special little rituals. We enjoy seeing the silly monkeys, cute baby elephants, funny dogs or adorable rhinos.
After a very long and hectic Saturday, we piled the family and the dog in the car and headed to Pappy's. We arrived around 10pm. Sunday morning Jackson and I went to church with Pappy. After church we headed to meet Dusty and family at the beach. Billy got to go along and seemed to like the beach. Later, we grilled burgers and chilled out for the night. Monday, we made our way to Dusty's a little earlier and Billy really enjoyed playing in the shallow water with us. After a long day at the beach, Jackson went back to sleepover with Dusty's boys. Dana and I went out for a lackluster dinner. We got up fairly early and went to get JW around 9am. Then a quick trip to Walmart and lunch. We hung around the house most of the day to keep JW out of the sun -- too much the day before. After another bad meal, JW and I rode Pappy's three wheeler to our favorite ice cream shop. Then we came back and took Billy to the beach as a family. We splashed around in the water until dark. Maybe more beach or a little pool time tomorrow.
Jackson and I started the day off with a quick trip to Starbucks. Luckily it was a non eventful day at SummerScape. I think quite a few people headed out of town early. JW and I ate lunch together. It was a beautiful day -- the temp was around 80 with very low humidity. It actually felt like Fall. It was so nice that I didn't want the day to end. We finally left school about 6pm. We came home and then went back out to the grocery store to get hot dogs and hamburgers. I grilled them and set up the tent for our campout. Then took Billy for a walk. Then out to the tent for bed.
Another day of SummerScape intense work. Calling about snacks, talking to parents, getting payroll together, finding subs, being a sub, etc. Had one assistant out due to throwing up and then his replacement started throwing up. What's up Chuck? I made a run to Chic-fil-a for JW and me and a few others. Made a quick run home to let the dogs out. Back to school to step in for Chris Becom. At least I got to play basketball with some kids. After school, JW and I came home and walked Billy to the ball field. Dana came home earlier than I expected, so JW and I wen to the Y pool and then got a pizza on the way home.
